About the participant

Mark is a jazz musician playing and studying in Auckland. He moved there 10 years ago after working on cruise ships. He completed a BMus at the New Zealand School of Music and now is studying towards his Doctor of Musical Arts at Auckland University. His favourite pianist is Brad Mehldau; his thesis is focused on consonance and dissonance in his music. Mark says: “I am constantly working out how to be a better improviser, with 88 notes and only 10 fingers it is a very hard task, infinate in fact!”
