Sledge, whose real name is Soubhi al Mouayad al Azem, was born in 1979 to one of the most famous families in Damascus. Even as a child, he was into playing guitar and listening to different styles of music. When he went to Damascus’ Russian Cultural Centre, Sledge started to learn the classical guitar. However, inspired by the playing of musicians such as Paco De Lucia, Sabicas Fights and Nino Ricardo he soon realised that his heart was beating to the rhythm of flamenco.
